Long Live The Boot
Buying new footwear is a big event in my life. Like the passing of an emperor, it marks the end and the beginning of an era. I used to own one pair of shoes at a time. As well as one pair of boots. I would wear both until they were unwearable, buy new ones and repeat the process. So I really had to like them because I would see them everytime I looked down for at least a year. In the case of boots, two or three winters.
Now that I am rich beyond my wildest dreams (which says a lot about the wildness of my dreams) I have a lavish six pair shoe collection. I still had only one pair of boots, though, and I somehow manage to make these ones last 9 years! Must be the unwintery winters over here in Japan. Granted they've looked like crap for the last three or four years but they've just become uncomfortable this year.
I picked up a new pair this week thus ushering in a new era. So far they are stiff and have cut up my ankles pretty bad, but I have high hopes for this new regime. Peace, prosperity and shiny leather.
I guess boots are not as fascinating a subject as I had thought.
ReplyDeleteThey are! They are! Very Interesting.
ReplyDeleteMy appreciation of the importance of footwear of all kinds has increased throughout the years. I heartily concur and hope the delay in my response does not show a lack of respect to the shoe and/or foot wear industry.
Are those the actual boots in the photo? Very nice. And I've wondering ever since you started the blog, who is the bearded dude in your main blog photo who bears a certain resemblance to you but definitely isn't you? Relative?
ReplyDeleteOn behalf of the footwear industry, I accept your apology. For further information please visit the Malaysian Footwear Manufacturer website (http://www.limkokwing.net/industry/partners/malaysian_footwear_manufacturers_association/)
ReplyDeleteYes, those are the actual boots on my actual table. There a classic hiking boot with a bit of a twist. I like them.
The guy is a disembodied soul plucked from the realm of the damned ( also known as random google image search). Don't have any idea who he is and sure hope he doesn't have a lawyer. Does he look like me? He was part of a whole set of pictures taken of the regulars from some bar in the 70's. I can't find them anymore, no matter what i search for. Should have downloaded them all when I had a chance.
